Making Tax Digital – We’ll Make It Simple
Making Tax Digital (MTD) is changing the way sole traders and landlords manage and report their tax affairs — but it doesn’t need to make running your business more complicated.
At BCS Management Accountancy, we can help you understand exactly what the new rules mean for you, get your records ready and make sure you stay compliant with HMRC.

MTD for Income Tax is being introduced in stages.
If you are a sole trader or landlord with qualifying income from self-employment and property of:
- Over £50,000 – MTD applies from 6 April 2026
- Over £30,000 – MTD applies from 6 April 2027
- Over £20,000 – MTD applies from 6 April 2028
Qualifying income is based on your total gross income from self-employment and property before expenses, rather than your profit.
Under MTD, you will need to keep digital records using compatible software and provide HMRC with quarterly updates of your income and expenses, as well as completing your tax return through compatible software.
